The Moment (Spring Equinox)
There are moments you wish you could capture,
And make into an album cover for an album of unwritten songs.
They’re songs unwritten about all the other moments that got away,
And about the ones you tried to save in a picture,
But we all know that pictures don’t preserve a feeling.
We all know it’s pointless,
To try and preserve something so powerful as
a moonrise imitating a streetlamp,
Their mixed lights sinking any passersby
Into a deep sense of nostalgia,
Nostalgia for times unknown,
For places unbeen,
And feelings unfelt.
Those moments are framed in our heads by the
Silky smooth white of a polaroid photo,
And the quiet contemplative crackling at the end of a tape cassette.
We all know it’s pointless,
We just don’t like to admit it.
